In a large bowl, combine the tomatoes, garlic, olive oil, vinegar, basil, salt and pepper. Allow the mixture to sit for 30 minutes for the flavors to really meld together.

Cut the baguette into 3/4-inch slices on a bias. On abaking sheet, arrnage the slices in a single layer and broil for 1 to 2 minutes, or untul lightly browned. WATCH THEM. Do not walk away or they will burn.

Divide the tomato mixture evenly over the baguetts slices. Top them with the mozzarella cheese and broil for 5 minutes. Again, do not walk away, stay and watch them.

Remove from the oven and arange on a serving platter. Let cook for 10 minutes before serving. Can be made ahead and served at room temperature.
